Say Her Name: Entire Video Footage of the Shooting Death of Sonya Massey

Sonya Massey

The cold blooded execution of Springfield Illinois resident Sonya Massey is extremely hard to watch, comprehend or digest — especially if you’re a person of color and/or black.

Body cam footage from the deputy who shot and killed the 36 year old mother of two has been posted on the Illinois State Police YouTube channel.

On July 6, an Illinois sheriff deputy’s body camera captures the house call in its entirety which starts with deputies arriving to her Springfield home. I’m so late to the party on this docu-series.

Growing up in the south where wrestling is huge, I can remember my grandparents being heavy professional wrestling fans so watching the WWF every weekend was very much a ritual in our house and I loved every second of it.

I grew up in the 80s era. Macho Man Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Andre the Giant were all so exciting to watch as a kid. I can still remember the anticipation of the pay per view events such as Summer Slam, Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. The pay per views were considered to be the biggest and most important shows because they featured the biggest matches and storylines.

I absolutely enjoyed the flamboyance, the smack talking, the brawls, the bodies, the costumes and entertainment aspect of it all. I didn’t care if it was real or fake I was more impressed in the creative team’s ability to keep millions of fans glued to their television sets every week waiting to see what would happen next.
