Rapper Lil Durk Has Deep Gang Ties; Dad Big Durk Connected to Larry Hoover

Rapper Lil Durk is the stage name of Derrick ‘Durk’ Banks, a Chicago native from the Englewood area.

His melodic rap style and songs about his life, relationships, street experiences, and losses is how he became prominent through Chicago’s drill scene before developing into a major mainstream hip-hop artist.

Although Lil Durk has also had major legal issues, including a current federal case, his legal situation is separate from his father’s history.

His father, Devontay ‘Big Durk’ Banks, was involved in Chicago’s drug trade in the early 1990s and was eventually sentenced to life in federal prison. He knew and was mentored by Larry Hoover.

Bahamian Drug Lord Busted After Plan Crashed in the Atlantic Ocean

According to Fox 5 ATLANTA, Gardiner has already served 18 years for a prior drug conviction. Due to the repeated offense it’s likely this time will be greater. Allegedly.

Fox 5 Atlanta — A Bahamian man faces federal drug trafficking charges in Atlanta after U.S. officials rescued him from an Atlantic Ocean plane crash, federal prosecutors announced. 

What we know:

Federal authorities unsealed an indictment charging 58-year-old Jonathan Eric Gardiner, also known as “Player,” with conspiracy to import controlled substances and conspiracy to distribute them, according to state prosecutors. 

Gardiner allegedly operated from The Bahamas, supplying massive cocaine shipments to organizations in the Northern District of Georgia from approximately December 2022 to May 2026.
