Sandra Beltran: Mexico’s Most Infamous Female Organized Crime Boss Gives Her First Post Prison Interview

October 2015, Sandra Ávila Beltran, the revered “Queen of Cocaine” or “Queen of the Pacific” was released from prison.

She has spent the last seven years in confinement for money laundering, including two years in solitary confinement.

Avila, now in her early 50s, was arrested in 2007 in Mexico City with her Colombian boyfriend, Juan Diego Espinoza Ramirez, whom officials claimed was also a powerful drug-world figure.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, “Avila is believed to have been a rare figure — a powerful woman — in Latin America’s testosterone-saturated drug world, and her story has become a kind of genre to itself, particularly with the success of ‘La Reina del Sur,’ the wildly popular Telemundo telenovela to which Avila’s life is sometimes compared. The former Cartel queen pin gave an exclusive interview, her first in nearly a decade, from her home near Guadalajara, Mexico. In that interview she lashed out at political corruption in Mexica, mocked the futility of drug prohibition and praised Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Ávila is the stuff legends are made of – one of the few women with access to the highest levels of cartel life. She has lived, worked and loved inside the upper echelons of the Mexican drug world since the late 1970s. At the height of her career, she showed a propensity to carry suitcases with millions of dollars in crisp $100 bills.

Female Mexican Police Officer Fired For Topless Squad Car Selfie

Female police officer, Nidia Garcia, was suspended from her job after someone in El Chapo’s camp supposedly leaked a topless selfie picture taken from inside her patrol car.

The reaction in Mexico is somewhat divided on Garcia’s situation. Some are laughing, while others are outraged at her inappropriate actions.

After the story broke, Nidia took to Facebook to make this statement. She wrote:

“I want to ask a huge apology to the secretary of security and Justice of proximity and more to my municipality general Escobedo for this immoral act on my part. I feel disgusted by the great damage caused and the damage done mainly to my two daughters, followed by my husband, my parents, brothers and entire family.”

The vivacious officer is under pending investigation and is unlikely to be allowed to rejoin the force, presumably because of the likelihood that she may have ties to organized crime.

The Cartel Theory Raised In OJ Simpson Trial

Faye Resnick

On the latest episode of FX’s American Crime Story, Johnnie Cochran and O.J. Simpson’s defense team mentioned a Colombian drug cartel theory in court.
According to Cochran, the cartel was responsible for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. He also mentioned a technique used by the drug dealers called the Colombian Necktie — which, under any circumstances, you should not Google. The drug cartel theory revolved around Faye Resnick and her reported drug use prior to the time of the murders. The theory was just that — a theory — but has Resnick ever spoken out about it?

In The People v. O.J. Simpson, Cochran and the defense team proposed a “drug theory” as a possible explanation for the murders.

A New York Times article published during the trial detailed what Cochran proposed. According to him, the murders were not a result of an upset ex-husband – O.J. Simpson – but rather, drug dealers.
The theory was dismissed months later.

According to Judge Ito, the defense was “highly speculative” and the team was not allowed to mention Resnick’s alleged drug use to the jurors. This was a pretty big blow to the defense, since Cochran hoped to bring in Resnick’s then-boyfriend, Christian Reichardt, as a witness.
