This new true crime documentary produced by Rachel Maddow covers the real-world investigation into corruption and press intimidation in remote southeast Oklahoma.
It follows a small family-run newspaper, the McCurtain Gazette, as they report on allegations of violence, drugs, and misconduct within the county sheriff’s office.
The documentary’s title comes from a secret audio recording obtained by the journalists, where local county officials were caught discussing hiring hitmen to kill and bury the reporters to prevent them from printing their stories.
