Luigi arrives to court

The federal case against “America’s Boyfriend” just took another unexpected twist as Luigi Mangione has now pled guilty to murder citing past injury and difficulties navigating the health care system.

Despite pleading guilty to stalking and murdering father and health care CEO Brian Thompson, Mangione’s defense fund donations spiked again to a whopping $1.56 million with many of his supporters still deeming him a Robin Hood.

Very strange times.

Luigi Mangione Request Murder Trial Be Live Streamed

Accused killer Luigi Mangione

America’s boyfriend, Luigi Mangione, is requesting to have his upcoming New York state murder trial livestreamed.

Although I truly hope they livestream this trial, I have to question if there is some kind of defense tactic in play here. Any law scholars that can explain this legal play?

Mangione came to national attention after being accused of the December 4, 2024, fatal shooting of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in New York City. He was arrested several days later in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a nationwide manhunt.

As of August 2026:

  • He has pleaded not guilty to the New York state charges.
  • He also faces related federal charges.
  • He remains in custody while the criminal cases proceed. The legal process is ongoing, and no final verdict has been reached.

Luigi Mangione Has $40K in Commissary While in Prison for Murder of United Healthcare CEO

Luigi Mangione, charged with the murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, has received around $40,000 from his fans in his commissary account, a fund that inmates can use for purchases within the prison. Although he can only spend about $175 per week, he buys food, clothing, hygiene products, and stationery. The case has astonished authorities due to the amount of money collected and the inmate’s popularity.

The phenomena surrounding this young man for allegedly gunning down a man in cold blood is incredible.

Besides being as cute as a button, the overwhelming support he receives on social media is evident that an alarming amount of people truly believe he is innocent and/or did nothing wrong. Some of his staunchest supporters even regard him as a robin hood or martyr of the people.
