If you are from Atlanta you probably know about Victor Hill — at best you probably know of him. He’s definitely no stranger to controversy. His career in law enforcement included 4 terms and spanned almost 2 decades, beginning in 2005.
Hill’s time as sheriff in Clayton County, (known as ClayCo if you’re from Atlanta) south of Atlanta, has been riddled with controversy. On his first day as sheriff, he fired more than two dozen deputies. He also used a military tank on drug raids as part of a tough-on-crime message.
He was voted out of office in 2008, but won it back again in 2012 despite facing more than two dozen criminal charges in a corruption case. A jury later acquitted him of all 27 charges, including theft and giving false statements. That cleared the way for Hill to continue as sheriff.
Here’s another devastating story of a young girl becoming victim of a man twice her age. These kinds of stories have to be every parent’s nightmare — especially of teen girls. Those teenage years are so tricky and lots of teen girls fall victim to simply loving the wrong guys. You never suspect an outcome as gruesome as this.
15 year old Gracie Sasso-Cleveland of Illinois was killed and her body placed in a trash dumpster by her boyfriend who turned out to be a 29 year old sex offender with previous offenses.
Gracie’s mother said she bears the regret of having not googled the guy her daughter was in a relationship with. Had she googled him she would have discovered he is listed on the National Sex Offender Registry. He was also on probation for a previous instance of sexual abuse. She may have also learned his real age which is over the legal age limit to date a minor.
Jeesh!! This story reminds me of the show “Fear Thy Neighbor”.
I understand how annoying neighbors can be but due to close proximity I try my best to get along. This story is super sad because one man is dead and the elder is headed to prison. Prison is not where he wants to be at any age, especially 79. It’s even worse that the two men couldn’t work out their differences before it got to a deadly point.
According to NBC News — An Illinois man using a leaf blower in his own yard was fatally shot allegedly by his 79-year-old neighbor during an argument, marking the latest incident in which people are gunned down while going about their everyday lives.
William Martys, 59, was using a leaf blower in his yard at his Antioch home on April 12 when he was approached by his next-door neighbor, Ettore Lacchei, 79, and the two argued, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
During the altercation, “Lacchei shot Martys in the head,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
An investigation into Martys’ death found that Lacchei “had various perceived grievances with Martys.”
Anybody else notice an influx of these types of crimes in the news? Conspiracy theorists would believe there is a reason for that. I don’t know if that’s the case but I do believe the news stations are very selective in what stories are published. As a blogger I know that the shocking and outrageous stories garner the most attention. The world loves a train wreck. There is definitely shock and horror factors in these types of stories especially with todays climate of heightened gun homicides. Shock factors bring ratings and views. It’s just simple mathematics.
Either way I hope this kind of petty nonsense stops. It’s scary. We have to learn to live together because none of this stuff goes with us once we go so what the heck are we really even fighting for?
What happened to love thy neighbor? Not FEAR THY NEIGHBOR.
