Via Sun Sentinel:

The jokes write themselves, but it was no laughing matter when Marlon Alvarez tried to get away with the rifle.

The owner of a pawn shop said he saw Marlon Alvarez leaving his store with an odd limp, so he stopped the 19-year-old outside and took back the AK-47 rifle he had stuffed in his pants.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Alvarez had prior legal issues involving  guns before moving from New York. He also racked up drug and theft charges in his new home.

“The court was just very concerned about your alleged behavior without even knowing your criminal background,” judge John Hurley commented.

Florida’s assistant state attorney Eric Linder asked Hurley to crack down on Alvarez.

“It’s one thing to try to steal a firearm,” Linder argued. “It’s another thing trying to steal an AK47 and potentially trying to put a stolen firearm out on the street.”

Bond was set at $25,000.
