Lord have mercy. What is going on in Haiti?! If you or a loved one was planning a trip to the country from the US, check your flight status.
Various news outlets are reporting that a Spirit plane was shot at during landing and they believe the culprit to be gangs attempting to cease control of the airport and block travel in and out of the capital, Port Au Prince.
As a result of the imminent danger, all flights have been cancelled by at least 3 major US airlines, including Spirit, to and from the country.
As the killings and hunger escalate, a political power struggle has cost the prime minister Garry Connile, his job. He was fired by Haiti’s transitional council and his firing is yet another setback for this country plagued by poverty, famine, gang violence and political unrest.
Let’s keep the people of Haiti in our thoughts. This has got to be just terrifying for the everyday citizens and something absolutely has to be done.
CNN — A Spirit Airlines plane was hit by gunfire Monday over Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince, according to diplomatic source in the country, resulting in what the airline described as “minor injuries” to one of its crew members.
Spirit said Monday that its flight 951 from Fort Lauderdale in Florida to Port-au-Prince was diverted and landed in Santiago in the Dominican Republic, where “an inspection revealed evidence of damage to the aircraft consistent with gunfire.”
