Back in 2005, rap legend Kimberly “Lil Kim” Jones was convicted of three counts of perjuring herself and one count of conspiracy of perjury for allegedly lying to a Grand Jury regarding a shootout that went down in 2001. The shootout happened outside New York radio station HOT 97 between Lil Kim’s Junior Mafia entourage and her rap rival rap Foxy Brown’s entourage over insults traded over wax.

Reportedly, Lil Kim was trying to protect her crew from prison time and ended up doing time herself.

Upon sentencing, Lil Kim said, “I can tell you this is by far the toughest thing I have ever had to go through. I testified falsely during the grand jury and in trial. At the time, I thought it was the right thing to do, but now I know I was wrong.”

Lil Cease, a member of Kim’s entourage and Junior Mafia, testified during the trail against her which helped facilitate the conviction. He has since apologized for testifying against her and the two appeared to have reconciled their differences.

In addition to serving one year in prison, she was also slapped with a $50,000 fine. She was released in 2006 and continued her artistic and musical career.

The Naked Truth, was released prior to her sentencing to positive reviews from critics. As of 203, the album has sold 5.3 million copies worldwide.

Rapper Foxy Brown was not present during the shootout and was not charged with any crimes.

As of today, Foxy and Kim have never reconciled over the rap beef despite fans calling for a truce and musical collaboration.
