___ Evidence Storage And Organizing A Police DepaA grand jury has indicted a former Darien police officer on a theft charge in the disappearance of drugs from the city police department’s evidence room.

The Florida Times Union (http://bit.ly/1Atji6G ) reports Nicholaus “Nick” Odell Roundtree was indicted last week in McIntosh County on single counts of theft by conversion and violating his oath of office. The indictment was received Tuesday in Superior Court.

Authorities accuse Roundtree of taking more than $1,500 worth of drugs in the evidence locker.

Roundtree resigned in June, the month after authorities asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to probe the disappearance of drugs held as evidence in criminal cases.

Roundtree remains free on $11,100 bail. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.
