Tavis Smiley Calls Out Sheriff David Clarke For “Scapegoating” Black Lives Matter

During his speech at the Republican National Convention Monday night, Sheriff David Clarke said the Black Lives Matter movement was anarchy.

Talk show host Tavis Smiley was asked by reporters how he felt about Clarke’s statements, to which he said “if the Black Lives Matters movement is anarchy, as Clarke said in his speech, then the Boston Tea Party was too, reports MSNBC.

“But we wouldn’t be here without it,” he added. Also noting that, “It is always easy to find these sort of political sycophants who are willing to stand up and advance these sort of simple slogans and rosy rhetoric but can’t get to a real conversation about what’s at stake here. What’s at stake here is not just the lives of cops. And there’s no one in the country who doesn’t believe that blue lives matter, indeed they do. The question is when do we get around to appreciating, to valuing the sanctity, the humanity, and the dignity of black life? That’s what’s at the stake.”

Smiley went on to say that is the reason as to why Black Lives Matter is protesting and that ultimately Clarke is “scapegoating” because he does not want to address the issue at hand.

“Again, I repeat, it’s about the humanity, and the dignity, and the sanctity of black life,” Smiley said.

Mexico’s President: ‘No Way’ Country Will Pay for Donald Trump’s Wall

Mexico’s president said that there is “no way” his country would ever pay for a wall between it and the United States.

According to KTLA:

In a wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Enrique Peña Nieto shot down Donald Trump’s campaign promise that he’s going to build a wall and Mexico will foot the bill.

Peña Nieto stressed that economic and social prosperity on both sides of the border relies on a firm relationship between Mexico and the United States.

“We also have to bear in mind that the security of the United States is linked with the security of its neighboring countries,” he said. “And this is what we have built. And I’ll say it again, this is what we have been doing with the U.S. government. We have a relationship of coordination, of collaboration and of cooperation in the area of security, precisely in order to have security in Mexico, to have security in the U.S. and … we are journey companions. We are strategic partners working for security in North America.”

“There is no way that Mexico can pay [for] a wall like that.”

Hillary Clinton Says White People Need To Start Listening To African-American Concerns

The tragic killings of black men at the hands of police officers this week is no doubt going to make fodder for politicians during this election year.

The presidential hopeful is taking the opportunity to put her outrage on full display.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said on Friday that white people must do more to understand the experiences that African-Americans have had with police officers.

Speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Clinton made the remarks in response to questions about why she believes she’s more qualified than presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump to close the racial divide in America.

“I will call for white people, like myself, to put ourselves in the shoes of those African-American families, who fear every time their children go somewhere, who have to have the talk about … how to really protect themselves, when they are the ones who should be expecting protection from encounters with the police,” Clinton said.

“I’m going to be talking to white people. I think we are the ones who have to start listening to the legitimate cries that are coming from our African-American fellow citizens, and we have so much more to be done, and we have got to get about the business of doing it,” said Clinton. “We can’t be engaging in hateful rhetoric or incitement of violence. We need to bring people together.”
