Some lucky Atlanta students got a huge surprise last week. Mentors encouraged them as they walked into school for the very first time this year.

During the welcome, approximately 370 boys at BEST Academy of Atlanta, an all boys school for grades 6 through 12, were greeted with cheers, handshakes, high-fives, hugs and encouraging words from over 70 men.

The heartfelt welcome was thanks to a partnership by several Atlanta non-profit organizations, including 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Emerging 100 of Atlanta, The Collegiate 100 and the 100 Black Men of America

Ray Singer, the program director for 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the liaison for the school, said the morning also benefited the mentors.

WATCH: Rapper Lil Boosie Cries When Fan Tells Him You Are My Daddy

Boosie

I must admit, ever since New Orleans rapper Lil Boosie Badazz got out of prison in 2014, he has become a new man. I personally liked some of his music but never really followed his career prior to. Since his release, he can do no wrong in my eyes. I just like the guy what can I say. I get a kick out of him. His interviews are always classics.

Boosie’s time in the bing grew him up and after his release it was obvious that he was finally headed down the right path. I can appreciate his redemption story.

Check out this video of Boosie talking about how his fans touch his heart when they let him know that they appreciate his music.

Around the :53 mark Boosie breaks out in song belting out the 1993 hood classic throwback, “Gangster Lean.” And he sings it from the heart.

Sang Boosie! Saaaaang! Gotta love it.

According to AJC Atlanta— A man jumped over an Atlanta Rite Aid counter and filled his backpack with cough syrup. The employee said that the man watched her until she finished with her last customer then hopped over the counter and told her, “Don’t move and you won’t get hurt.”

He took 10 bottles of Promethazine cough syrup worth $137.96 and “walked out of the store calmly,” according to the report she gave the police.

Wow.

For those who aren’t familiar, Promethazine is a codeine antihistamine that is the main ingredient used to make “lean” — a popular drug drink of choice for rappers. It can be used to treat everything from allergies to motion sickness. It is so potent that it is also used as a sedative before and after surgery and medical procedures.

When mixed with Sprite, the “drink” is highly addictive. Some rappers –such as Lil Boosie say they have stopped “sipping the drink,” mainly because of its painful and excruciating withdrawals. Withdrawal symptons can be likened to coming off of heroin.

According to Lil Boosie, due to today’s popularity of syrup, there is a heightened demand and pints of promethazine can go for as much as $5000.00 on the streets.
