Man charged with Desecrating American Flag After Posting Photos On Facebook

An Illinois man was arrested after he set the American flag on fire and posted photos of the act on Facebook.

But the incident has sparked a debate on social media about whether the act should be considered an expression of free speech.

According to The News-Gazette, Bryton Mellott, 22, posted several photos on Facebook on July 3 showing him burning the American flag. On the photo post, he included a statement about why he is “not proud” to be an American.

“In this moment, being proud of my country is to ignore the atrocities committed against people of color, people living in poverty, people who identify as women, and against my own queer community on a daily.”

Before the photos were deleted, they were shared thousands of times on Facebook.

Alton Sterling’s Oldest Son Breaks Down In Tears During His Mother’s Statement On Father’s Murder

What a cold blooded story. Literally.

I really don’t have the words to describe the emotions I feel for this family.

I feel sorry for his children, who have to forever live with this travesty as the last vision of their father, on the ground being jumped by 2 police officers and shot in cold blood. Especially when he was out there attempting to sell CDs & other goods to support his family.

What’s even more terrifying and devastating is that someone can just simply call in a report of a “black man with a gun” and this is the end result. There was no gun found, btw.

Below is a video of the mother of Alton Sterling’s children speaking on the family’s devastation caused by his cold blooded murder.

Sadly, Sterling’s oldest son, 15, breaks down into tears with grief. No child should have to endure this kind of pain, especially at the hands of the supposed “good guys.”

Donate to the Alton Sterling Family Scholarship which was set up to help support his children.

Hopefully with time the children will be able to use this horrifying situation to better themselves & their community.

It’s gotta be a heavy & seemingly unfair cross to bear.
