New York Woman Denied $43 Million Jackpot by Casino Is Offered Steak Dinner, $2.25 Instead

According to KTLA:

Katrina Bookman hit the jackpot on a slot machine in late August at Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens. She even took an excited self-portrait with the machine displaying her winnings: $42,949,672. It would have been the largest slot machine jackpot in US history.

“I can’t even describe the feeling. It’s like my whole body just got numb,” Bookman told CNN affilate WABC.

But when she came back the next day to find out the exact size of her jackpot, a casino employee crushed her excitement.

“I said, ‘So what did I win? He said, ‘You didn’t win nothing,’” she told WABC.

The New York State Gaming Commission said that Bookman’s machine had malfunctioned. The machine, like all the ones in the casino, has a disclaimer stating, “Malfunctions void all pays and plays.”

Instead, the casino offered Bookman a complimentary steak dinner.

“All I could think about was my family,” Bookman told WABC, her voice breaking. She grew up in foster care and raised 4 children as a single mother.

The New York State Gaming Commission told WABC that they immediately pulled the machine from the casino floor to fix it, and it is now up and running once again. The commission said that by law they can only award Bookman her actual winnings of $2.25, printed by the machine.

“They win, and now the house doesn’t want to pay out. To me that’s unfair,” says Bookman’s attorney, Alan Ripka. He’s fighting for the casino to pay Bookman the maximum amount allowed by the Sphinx slot machine — $6,500.

“The machine takes the money when you lose. It ought to pay it when you win,” Ripka said.

A Resorts World spokesman told CNN: “Upon being notified of the situation, casino personnel were able to determine that the figure displayed on the penny slot was the result of an obvious malfunction — a fact later confirmed by the New York State Gaming Commission.

“After explaining the circumstances to Ms. Bookman, we offered to pay her the correct amount that was shown on the printed ticket. Machine malfunctions are rare, and we would like to extend our apologies to Ms. Bookman for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The casino couldn’t send a portion of its revenue to a New York state education fund, as mandated by law, if had to pay out massive jackpots like the one displayed on Bookman’s machine, said the Resorts World spokesman, who asked his name not be used. In five years, the casino has generated more than $1.6 billion for the fund, he said.

But Bookman remains frustrated.

“I should win the max. And I feel like I should treat him (the casino employee) to a steak dinner,” she said.

SMH! Do you think she was denied her mega millions due to race?

Japanese Woman Undergoing Surgery Badly Injured After Passing Gas & Igniting Fire In Operating Room

A woman in Tokyo, Japan, who was undergoing an operation was seriously burned when she passed gas.

According to The Straits Times, the fire occurred at Tokyo Medical University Hospital on April 15.

The patient, who is in her 30’s, was undergoing an operation on her cervix. During the surgery, she passed gas, and it ignited the irradiation of the laser that was being used.

The woman sustained burn injuries to most of her body, including her waist and legs, the Strait Times reports.

A committee of experts not affiliated with the hospital reviewed the case and released their report on Oct. 28. According to the experts, there were no flammable materials present in the operation room at the time, and the equipment did not malfunction.

The Straits Times obtained the report which said:

“When the patient’s intestinal gas leaked into the space of the operation (room), it ignited with the irradiation of the laser, and the burning spread, eventually reaching the surgical drape and causing the fire.”

The incident was initially reported in the Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper.

Georgia Postal Worker Caught On Video Dumping Mail In The Woods

Waiting for the mailman to bring you something? Well, you might be waiting awhile for it if you live in one Atlanta suburb.

According to KTLA:

A woman videotaped a US Postal Service worker earlier this week dumping bin after bin of mail in the woods behind her subdivision in Decatur, Georgia.

“I sat there and recorded for about 5 minutes. And he continued to just grab more mail and continued to just toss it over the fence,” Kellie Campbell told CNN affiliate WSB. Campbell said the man even took a short break to rest before finishing and driving off.

The postal service sent five investigators over to pick up the discarded mail Wednesday. It took them more than two hours to get it all out of the woods. The USPS has started an investigation. An investigation into the matter has already been started by the USPS.

‘Very disrespectful’

“The postal service condemns, in the strongest possible sense, behavior that jeopardizes the security and sanctity of the US mail or threatens to tarnish the reputation and high level of trust that the vast majority of our employees work so hard to uphold,” the USPS said in a statement to WSB.

The postal service says it thinks the man in the video is a part-time employee of the agency.

Residents, who say they’ve missed getting important pieces of mail in the past, were ticked off.

“That’s where my mail at, down in that hole down there in the woods,” resident Johnnie Lanier said. “I think that was very disrespectful.”

Will the residents ever get their mail? The postal service said it will be delivered to them as soon as possible.
