There is a wide variety of opinions surrounding the infamous altercation involving pop stars Chris Brown and Rihanna which took place in 2009 inside his rental Lamborghini. Social media supporters of Chris Brown appear willing to turn a blind eye to the proof and repeated accusations of his violence against women, even going so far as making excuses and victim shaming the women.

Like so many cases of reported domestic violence, Rihanna was seen with Brown a few days after the fight which left her bruised and battered, leaving fans and spectators confused and speculating why she would take him back. Chris Brown’s fans somehow have now spun it into a “no big deal” narrative. After all, she took him back.

Domestic violence is something I have never tolerated so I really can’t relate to the physique of an abuse victim but I certainly can empathize with them. Some people stay for many reasons — finances, kids, fear or just plain ole love. Whatever the reason it’s not good enough.

Luckily for Rihanna, she eventually got away. She seems to have rebounded from the situation and now happily shares two children with hip hop artist, Asap Rocky.

She photographed the “F*ckin Problems” rapper for the new Tiffany&Co campaign, “Asap Rocky by Rihanna”.

In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip from the upcoming documentary, Cheryl Dorsey from the Los Angeles Police Department read details from the 15-year-old incident report.

“It states that Rihanna and Chris were driving in his car around town. Rihanna had seen something on his phone that made her think he was dealing with another female,” she states in the doc. “And by his own admission, when she confronted him in the car he got a little annoyed with her. The nerve of her to have the temerity to ask him a question about whatever it is that he is doing.”

The documentary airs on Sunday, October 27, as part of the network’s No Excuse for Abuse campaign. Will you be watching?
