Oakland Church Gets $500-A-Day Fine After Neighbors Complain About Chior Noise

Via Bossip– The city of Oakland is threatening to impose $500-a-day fines on a church that has long served  residents in Oakland after a neighbor complained that the late-night noise of the church choir was too loud.

Via SF Gate:
Pastor Thomas A. Harris III of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church said he was surprised to receive a letter from the city’s nuisance abatement division on Aug. 31, saying the “excessive noise” of organ, drums and amplified vocals during the church’s weekly choir rehearsals is a nuisance to neighbors — and violates city law.

According to the letter, the church could be hit with a $3,529 initial fine, and penalties of $500 a day, until it abates the noise.

“This is strange,” Harris said, adding that it’s “quite unheard of for a church to be fined because of joyful noise.

The problem, according to a copy of the complaint to the city, is that the loud music goes on sometimes until 2 a.m. The copy of the complaint was sent to the local NAACP head, George Holland, but excluded the name of the person who complained, self-described as an 11-year resident of West Oakland who had never had problems with the church noise until 2014.

Harris said the choir practice ends at 9 p.m. He also said he didn’t know which of his neighbors complained but assumed the person must be a newcomer to the area.

“We’ll try to work with the community,” he said. “We don’t want to disrespect them, but we don’t want to be disrespected.”

During one particularly joyful week in August, the peal of gospel music resounded “around the radius of the church” and could be heard from half a block away on all sides, according to a diagram the neighbor sent to city officials.

Singer D.R.A.M. Feels Drake Jacked His “Cha Cha” Song For “Hotline Bling”

Ok so I generally don’t post rap/music beef on this site (unless it turns criminal) but I couldn’t help myself with this one.

“Cha Cha” singer D.R.A.M. is accusing rapper/singer Drake of jacking his song for Drake’s hit song, “Hotline Bling”.

I have heard both songs (on the radio 10,000 times) & while they are both catchy & commercial, I personally dont hear an uncanny resemblance of the two songs. But that’s just me.

True enough, they both have a super catchy salsa-esque feel, but nothing else about the two songs are overtly similar enough to substantiate any “copycat” claims. The choruses are not even remotely alike.

Apparently Mr. D.R.A.M. doesn’t share the same sentiments and took to his Twitter to let his voice be heard after performing in Drake’s hometown of Toronto.

Side note: I have no idea which song was recorded or released first but at this point does it even matter? The publicity sure can’t hurt either one right now!

If I were D.R.A.M. I would sit this one out — we have all just seen what happened last time an artist came for Drake.

Anyway, head over to All Hip Hop and peep D.R.A.M.’s tweets & compare the two songs.

Check this out: Drake Finally Responds To “Stealing” D.R.A.M.’s Cha-Cha

Here is what he told FADER Magazine about using the “Cha-Cha” beat:
“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that,” Drake said. “Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person-me, this guy, this guy, all these guys- had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.”

RushCard Customer Service Reps Hanging Up On Customers; Locking People Out Of Accounts

This RushCard debacle is extremely badddd for Russell Simmons’ business and honestly makes him look bad. While Russell may have done nothing personally, the card carries his name & brand.

Everybody knows the worse thing you can do is play with people’s money–especially on pay day. The RushCard “glitch” that is keeping folks away from their hard earned cash is reeking havoc throughout social media.

The PR cleanup is already in full effect but evidently customers aren’t buying the efforts being put forth by UniRush LLC, the parent company of RushCard services.

Judging by the hundreds of venomous tweets & Facebook status updates, people just want their money! –and I can’t say I blame them!

Peep the story below on Fortune and sound off in the comments section!

Via Fortune– Users of RushCard, the prepaid debit card founded by hip-hop mogul and DefJam co-founder Russell Simmons, have been complaining all across Twitter that they’ve been locked out of their accounts, that their accounts are suddenly showing $0 balances, and that they aren’t getting any answers from customer service.

Some people haven’t had access to their payday money in a week.
